Step-by-step Seasonal Skincare

It’s not just your wardrobe that should change once autumn rolls around – your beauty regime should too.

It’s easy to forget just how quickly a change in the weather can affect your skin, especially when the ink from your latest passport stamp isn’t even dry yet. However, if you don’t take the necessary care to protect yourself from the transitioning season, you’ll soon find yourself transformed into a dry, dull flake-fest long before your summer tan fades.

So how do you ensure the glowing skin you’ve taken all summer long to perfect stays in tip-top condition throughout the rest of the year?

Step 1: Exfoliate

Every great painting needs a smooth canvas, and your skin is no different. Products such as serums, moisturisers and cleansers don’t easily sink into flaky, patchy skin, so the smoother the surface is, the deeper they penetrate and deeper they penetrate, the better effect they have.

Just a gentle exfoliation a couple of times a week can have a wondrous effect, as your skin will regenerate new cells, giving a refreshed and smoother appearance.

We recommend: Caudalie Gentle Buffing Cream. With its creamy texture, this buffing cream gently cleanses and purifies the skin as it stimulates cell renewal, leaving your skin feeling clean, soft and bright. With a soothing fragrance distilling fresh notes of lemon and lavender, it has been formulated for sensitive skin and contains 97% ingredients of natural origin.

Step 2: Repair

Sun, sea and chlorine all take their toll, so it’s good to show them you care.

Investing in a nourishing body oil can make a huge difference to the appearance and the health of your skin. By applying it to damp skin, or even adding a few drops into your bath water, you’ll soon see the benefits. Not only does it lock in skin’s moisture content and encourage better elasticity, it’ll also help you smell delicious throughout the day!

We recommend: ishga Invigorating Body Oil. Packed with sustainably sourced Scottish seaweed it provides a great way to moisturise dry skin whilst stimulating, revitalising and aiding self-repair. Seaweed contains many vitamins, including vitamins A, C and E, along with trace elements and amino acids and this powerful solution aids blood circulation, increases skins moisture content, firms, regenerates, detoxifies and nourishes the skin. Seaweed Body Oil will help to reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Step 3: Protect

While it may be tempting to run a super-hot bath after a day caught in the cold, it’s a sure-fire route to skin damage. Overly hot baths can burst facial capillaries which result in a red and uneven skin tone, as well as dry out skin rather than hydrate it.

The lighter face creams that you used in the summer need to be replaced with more nourishing products which intensively protect skin from the harsh effects of cold weather, and baths and showers should be warm – not boiling hot.

We recommend: Caudalie First Aid Skin Care. This intense moisture rescue cream nourishes skin deeply and protects it from drying out. It restores the hydrolipidic film and strengthens the skin barrier functions, whilst skin lipids are restored to soothe the skin and provide comfort. With its rich texture, this cream is the must-have moisture protection for very dry skin all year round or during harsh weather conditions.

Step 4: Hydrate

Increased exposure to central heating is one of the worst things you can do to your skin. Dry indoor environments suck out all the moisture they can find, leaving you prone to dry, flaky patches.

To remedy this, give your skin a helping hand by using a thoroughly hydrating barrier cream. For really dry skin, why not supplement it with a facial oil or serum too?

We recommend: [ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream. This 24-hour double hydrating cream guarantees soft, silky skin that screams summertime rather than snow! Developed with macro hyaluronic acid, moringa oil from certified fair trade cultivations and a blend of natural extracts to preserve a balanced skin hydration for a visibly smooth and bright effect, the innovative sorbet texture immediately quenches the skin, bestowing a pleasant sensation of freshness.
