The Salon – Therapist Profile

We are delighted to have welcomed Katie Howley to join our team here at The Salon at Leek and Buxton as our new beauty therapist.

We had a catch-up with Katie to find out a little more about her…so grab a cuppa and get comfy!

1. When did you join The Salon team?

I’m really new to the team, having only just started in June as an L2 beauty therapist. Everyone here has made me feel so welcome – things are definitely off to a good start!

2. What was your role before?

I’ve been really busy for the past few months working towards my L2 Beauty Therapy Qualification at Buxton and Leek College. I was so pleased when I got this position at The Salon so soon after completing the course – I can’t wait to get stuck in.

3. Tell us a little bit about your day-to-day responsibilities at The Salon?

I carry out lots of treatments from manicures and brows, to facials, waxing and more. I have always loved to pamper people and now getting to see so many people leave The Salon feeling good about themselves is really rewarding.

4. What is your favourite beauty treatment and why?

Manicures and pedicures are a staple treatment – pretty fingers and toes really can make the difference. I know I feel ready to take on the world once I’ve got a fresh set, especially in the summer as it’s the first step to brightening up my outfits. I also love shaping and tinting eyebrows – such a simple thing like this can really transform a client’s face. You can go from having out of control brows or ‘super fair, barely there’ and within 45-minutes of careful reshaping and tinting, bespoke to the client’s features, their entire face can be accentuated – you can’t help but pay more attention to the eyes.

5. What are your three favourite products inside your make-up bag?

That’s easy. I don’t go anywhere without mascara, foundation or bronzer. They’re my MUST have products.

6. When you are not at The Salon, what do you like to do in your spare time?

Having a little boy keeps me very busy outside of work. I enjoy long country walks or along the beach if we get a chance, but he’d always much rather be out spending my pennies so we try and find a happy medium!

7. Anything else to add?

Well… I enjoyed my time at Buxton and Leek College that much that I will be returning to undertake the Level 3 Spa/Beauty Therapy course. I’m looking forward to being able to offer a professional massage to friends, family and eventually clients, helping them to relax and unwind. I think it’s such a wonderful treatment with such tremendous benefits so I can’t wait. I really do love helping people to discover their own true beauty, so this will hopefully be another method in which I can do that for people.

Practising meditation daily keeps me grounded and creates a sense of clarity in hectic times – if I’m not doing that I love getting the chance to get creative, be it with hair fashion or writing – I can’t get enough.
