Say Goodbye to Summer – Your Post-Holiday Skincare Remedy

It may have been wet, wet, wet here in the UK this summer, but if you were lucky enough to escape the rain and jet off somewhere tropical, then your skin may need a little bit of TLC as we head into the colder (and hopefully drier) autumn.

The summer – as much as we love it – can play havoc with your skin. The higher temperatures which cause you to get hot and sweaty can result in blocked pores, whilst sunburn can leave you redder than Santa’s suit. And although we are in the run-up to Christmas, it’s not a look we’d recommend.

If you’ve overindulged on the Vitamin D this summer, then fear not. The award-winning Devonshire Spa in Buxton has the perfect remedy to help restore your skin back to its best.

1) Shake It Off

First things first, to encourage healthy, new skin to grow, you need to remove flaky, dead skin from the surface, so scrub, scrub, scrub with a detoxifier such as Caudalie’s Deep Cleansing Exfoliator. Designed to purify the skin and minimise pores, the whipped cream texture is infused with grapefruit, mint and sweet orange to prevent skin from drying out, leaving your skin glowing and flawless.

2) Bubbly Bliss

An important step in your skincare routine is working from a fresh canvas, and using a high-quality cleanser is instrumental in achieving this. A firm favourite amongst the staff here at the Devonshire Spa is Caudalie’s Instant Foaming Cleanser. Infused with purifying sage and moisturising grape extract, the gentle formula deeply cleanses and rids the skin of impurities, leaving skin feeling refreshed and radiant, without stripping it of its natural moisture.

3) Eye, Eye

The delicate area around the eye needs a skincare regime all of its own, as even your facial moisturiser can be too harsh for such fragile skin. Luxury Italian spa brand [ comfort zone’s ] Sublime Skin Eye Cream is formulated with peptides, flavonoids, caffeine and aescin for a complete action on lines, wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness helping eyes look younger and skin more compact and smooth.

4) Oil Change

If the soothing sounds of waves gently crashing on the shore convinced you to soak up the sun for longer than you’d expected (and let’s face it, who could resist that sound?) then you may find your skin becomes pink and sore. Restore sun-damaged skin with a reparatory facial oil infused with natural ingredients for maximum results. Scottish brand ishga’s Nourishing Organic Face Oil is packed with essential fatty acids and antioxidants to rehydrate and tone the skin, whilst the anti-inflammatory extracts of rose geranium help promote the healing of damaged skin.

5) Soothing Sorbet

To help with redness, why not try Caudalie’s Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet? Its gel-to-water texture melts into the skin, replenishing its water reserves to strengthen the surface and reduce sensitivity. The skin is immediately soothed and hydrated, whilst redness is reduced. What’s more, this lightweight product can be reapplied throughout the day, even over make-up, as many times as needed.

6) Quench Your Thirst

Follow up a moisturising sorbet with an intensely hydrating daily moisturiser, designed to nourish and repair dry, thirsty skin. When skin is ‘thirsty’ it looks dull and pale, is chapped and uneven to the touch and is more sensitive to external agents, even ageing prematurely. The [ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream is specially formulated with regenerating Moringa Oil from certified fairtrade cultivations, and a blend of natural extracts to preserve balanced skin hydration for a visibly smooth and bright effect.

7) Prevention is Better than Cure

The old saying that prevention is better than cure applies more than ever when it comes to skincare. Making sure that you apply sun protection – even on overcast days – is a sure-fire way to prevent sun-damaged skin and help reduce the negative effects of sun exposure. Caudalie recently launched a brand new sun care range which is not only safe for you, but it’s also safe for the sea. Find out more about it by clicking here >

8) Burn the Midnight Oil

Your skincare regime shouldn’t just work for you during daylight hours. A hard-working but restorative night oil can work wonders for dry, damaged skin and leave you looking transformed after just a short period of use. [ comfort zone’s ] Renight Oil is ideal for undernourished, dry, stressed and tired skin. It is particularly recommended for its repairing and emollient action after sun exposure so should be a permanent product on any nightstand.

9) Safe Sun

If your budget hasn’t stretched to a beach holiday this year but you’d still like to look like a golden goddess, why not consider the safest way to tan – fake it til you make it!

The Kissed by Mii treatment at the Devonshire Spa is a 60-minute tanning therapy which gives you a beautiful tan with none of the dangers. The nourishing benefits of coral seaweed and coastal flowers will replenish your skin’s natural minerals, leaving it sublimely soft so your tan can develop beautifully.

Enjoy a luxury exfoliation and tanning treatment for just £30, or you can upgrade the treatment to include use of our first-class spa facilities for £40.
