Sleeping Beauty – bedtime beauty tips

Let’s be honest, we’d all love fresh, dewy skin and silky smooth hair from the minute we wake up until the moment we rest our heads, but life sometimes gets in the way.

To look naturally fresh and rested in a morning, the best advice we can give is to get a great night’s sleep (which is easier said than done).

Whether it’s work, family life or Netflix that’s zapping precious time away from your bedtime beauty regime, we have the perfect remedy to help you wake up looking like you just stepped out of a salon. Take a look at our top tips and discover how to sleep yourself pretty – there’s a reason it’s called beauty sleep you know!

Blank Canvas

First things first, if you want to wake up looking fantastic, you need to make sure your face is clean before you go to bed! You’d be amazed how many people hit the sack without using so much as a cleansing wipe. Simply getting into the routine of taking your make-up off will do wonders for your skin. For a gentle yet powerful clean, use a light yet hydrating cleanser as they’re great at removing all traces of the most stubborn make-up.

Oil Change

Your skin enters repair mode during the night, so why not help it out with a nourishing face oil? There’s a fantastic selection to choose from, no matter what your skin type is. Try one with Argan Oil to help reduce redness and irritation, Macadamia Oil to reduce pores, or Jojoba Oil to help reduce oil production. (Yes – applying oil to your face will reduce the amount you produce naturally – sounds crazy but it’s true!)

Clean Sweep

To help keep a clear complexion, make sure you wash your pillow cases at least every two weeks, and flip them over every other night to prevent resting your head and face in a nest of pore clogging bacteria. Choosing silk or satin pillow cases is also said to help prevent wrinkles too.

Brush Strokes

Brush your hair before you go to bed to distribute the day’s oil production throughout the whole of your tresses, rather than just allowing it to congregate at the roots. For an extra boost, spray with dry shampoo at night rather than in the morning for a more natural look.

Skin Deep

For silky smooth skin, apply a layer of body oil before you hit the sack. Light and non-greasy, they’re quickly absorbed so there’s no need to worry that they’ll stain your sheets or your bed clothes, and they’re a great way to wake up feeling hydrated and with a healthy glow.

Switch Off, Look Sharp

Try to establish a routine of switching off an hour before you go to bed. That means all visual media and electronics (yes, even your smartphone) as straining at a small screen in the dark is a quick way to crow’s feet! Use soft lighting or candles, sleep inducing incense and soothing music to create a relaxing environment and you’ll be asleep in no time!

Looking Glovely

Invest in a pair of good cotton socks and gloves, and slather on a rich moisturising hand cream over your hands, nails and feet before putting them on. This is a great way to banish rough skin, and strengthen and protect brittle nails. Do this a couple of times a week and you’ll soon see the benefits – and smell delicious!

Bed Head

Don’t go to bed with wet hair – it’s a sure fire way of waking up to wild, uncontrollable locks (and that’s never a look any of us are aiming for!) A quick blow dry before bed might seem like a chore, but it’ll save you loads of time in the morning – we promise. To prevent hair drying out, apply Argan Oil to the ends which will also tame frizz and help prevent split ends.

Eye Spy

Massaging in a small amount of nourishing eye cream each night will help to diminish fine lines and dark circles, giving you that wide awake look from the minute your alarm goes off. Make sure to use an eye cream that is suited to your specific needs.
