Charity Ball hosted at the Devonshire Dome raises a staggering £180,000

On Saturday 10th February the first ever #ChallengeDerbyshire Charity Ball took place at the iconic Devonshire Dome in Buxton. A host of local businesses came together to show their incredibly generous support for a range of fantastic charities in the Derbyshire region.

Once the magnificent stable block of the 5th Duke of Devonshire, the 18th century Devonshire Dome is one of the most breathtaking historic venues in the UK, which boasts the largest unsupported dome in Europe and prides itself on being able to host a range of spectacular events.

#ChallengeDerbyshire was formed in 2015 to support three end-of-life care charities in North Derbyshire; Ashgate Hospicecare, Blythe House Hospice and Helen’s Trust.

Saturday night’s event was attended by nearly 400 guests and raised a staggering sum in excess of £180,000, taking the total amassed by the initiative so far to over £500,000.

The wonderful evening, hosted by High Peak Radio’s Paul Jenner and Damian Senar, included a lavish four-course dinner, live music from Function Fever, as well as a guest performance from Derbyshire children’s choir Perfect Pitch, who continue to support #ChallengeDerbyshire, having themselves raised over £10,000 for the cause.

For several weeks building up to the Charity Ball, University of Derby students studying a variety of different subjects worked extremely hard to make the event one to be remembered. A total of 55 students also gave up their time to undertake important roles such as chefs, front of house delivery and event assistants to ensure the evening ran smoothly. The event organisers expressed particular thanks to the University of Derby for their most generous support, which they say undoubtedly helped contribute to the amazing total raised.
